(Poem) The meaning of life is a MacGuffin.

“What is the meaning of life?”

Philosophers ponder to no end

Like a dog chasing its own tail.

My friends,

The answer lies in the question;

The “meaning of life” is

Nothin’ but a MacGuffin—

A plot device used to

Compel the character,

The character named “I”

The character named “You”

A carousel to carry the soul

Round a reason we aren’t meant to grasp.

When we ask,

“What is the meaning of life?”

We are like the dog:

We too chase our tales

In guess after guess

Yet never bite the bone

Because, as it turns out,

The point of life

Is not the point at all.

Not to say there is no point.

Rather, it is the motion

Not a notion

Which gives the tides of life its meaning.
